RECORD EXCURSION.
Mystery Train Runs to Oxford. Over 470 persons left Christchurch at 9 a.m. yesterday on the second of the Railway Department’s popular mystery hikes this year. People from country districts swelled this total to more than 500. This is the largest number that has been carried on any one occasion since the tramps began three years ago. The route, as disclosed when the train was nearing the stopping place, lay over the downs country in the Oxford County and six properties were traversed. Magnificent views of the district were obtained from the higher points of the downs. The Te Hapu Koa, Wanderers, R.N.V.R., Oddfellows, Peninsula, Somerfield, Kiwi Joggers, Dunstable and Arewa Clubs were represented.
