RELIEF DEPOT WORK.

Quantity of Coal Sent Out by Mayor.

Some 1594 families received assistance through the Central Relief Depot during the past fortnight, according to a statement made by Mr George Harper at a meeting of the Citizens’ Unemployment Relief Committee to-day. The number of appeals dealt with was 50, of which 26 were new and 2 4 were renewals. At the request of the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan. M.P.), £IOO worth of coal had been distributed from the depot, 2s 6d a bag being the charge, the coal being sold on the coupon system. “ The distribution was made speedily at a time when the coal was most needed.” said Mr Harper. “ The recipients were thus able to get firing to see them over the cold weather.” The report was adopted.
