Intoxication Charge Against

Bank Manager. WAS CAR IN ACCIDENT? (Special to the “ Stai\”) GREYMOUTH, May 21. In the Greymouth Magistrate’s Court, before Mr H. Morgan, S.M., Reginald Louis Machu, manager of the Greymouth branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia, was charged with being found in an intoxicated state in charge of a motor-car in Mackay Street on the evening of May 19. Senior-Sergeant Quavle, in asking for a remand until Monday next, said that further inquiries would be made. He stated that a similar car was involved in an accident in Tainui Street about half an hour previously, as a result of which a young telegraph messenger, James Carruthers, was injured and admitted to the Grey Hospital, where he now lies in a serious condition. Other charges might be pending. A remand was granted and bail was allowed in self £25 and one surety of £25.
