SEASON'S WHEAT.
Final Payment of 6d Per Bushel. DISTRIBUTION OF £200,000. The Wheat Purchase Board an- j nounced yesterday that it proposed to maiie a final payment to growers of 6d per bushel on all the 1933 f.a.q. milling wheat sold to. or through, the board. More than £200,000 will be distributed to growers as a result of this decision. No figures have been given by the board, but the total handled last year ✓s understood to be more than eight million bushels. The distribution will bring the price of 1933 wheat to a minimum of 3s lOd a bushel to the grower for earlier deliveries of Tuscan. and slightly more than 4s on an average over the whole year. Hunters aie worth 2d more than Tuscan, and Pearl 4d more. Early last year the manager of the Wheat Board stated that the equalisation levy of Is 3d per bushel would be used to pav for the estimated surplus. In view of the large proportion of the surplus to the required amount of milling wheat the levy was not large, and there were certain charges to be met. | such as possible storage and insurance rates and the administrative costs ot the board. j At the time this statement was made the w'orld price of wheat was low. but there was an improvement later, and this must have reduced losses on exports. Then the quantity exported was not as large as was. expected, and the bulk of the wheat still held was deposed of within the Dominion. Thi board has been able to balance the ex--1 port account, defray its administrative expenses, and now return 6d tier bushel to the growers.
