TRAMWAY FINANCE.

Comparison With Position in Wellington. An interesting comparison of the tramway position in Wellington and

Christchurch has been afforded by the publication of statements of the finances of the two undertakings. 1 A year ago the Wellington trams showe da deficiency of £12.589, after the allocation of £26,374 to the renewals fund. This year the Wellington City Council, which controls the tramway . undertaking, has suspended its alloca-

tion to the renewals fund. If it had not done this the trams would have shown a deficiency of £25,000, instead of a surplus of £1363. The Christchurch Tramway Board has this year allotted £18.629 to its renewals account, and it had followed the Wellington plan of suspending that appropriation its deficiency would have been only £1349 instead of £19,978.
