Walsh, one of the assessors for the employees, during the hearing of a dispute before the Conciliation Commissioner at Wellington “ A friend of mine employing labour.” said Mr Walsh, “ approached his bank manager for an overdraft. The bank official looked through his client’s correspondence and pointed out that he had not yet reduced wages. My friend said: ‘I don’t have to. I can carry on.’ The bank manager replied: ‘You go away and consider reducing your wages, and then come and see me.’ ”
