A CORRESPONDENT, “Mitchell,” who complains of a dulling and broadening of the “ a’s ” of young women, who make town into “ taana.” and honest old down into “ daana.” moves on to debatable ground when he adds: “ I have heard young men who confidently write B.A. and even M.A. after their names say 4 So he can ’ instead of ‘ So that he may.’ ” “So that he can ” is not an unpardonable offence, for precision in these matters will never be imposed by rule on the masses, and very fine distinctions tend to disappear. Nevertheless, as the last verse in the lately discussed Apocrypha says: Even so speech finely framed delighteth the ears of them that read the story.
