Mr J. H. Harris Appointed to Position. Air J. H. Harris, a former All Black, was appointed sole selector for the Canterbury representative -Rugby team, at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last, night. Mr Harris
the High School Old Boys’ Clu b. Other nominees were: Messrs N. P. M’Gregor (nominated by the Christchurch and Athletie Clubs). P. Harvey (nominated by Sydenham Club), and H. E. Davis (nominated by Idnwood Club and the North Canterbury SubUnion). Mr Harris, as a member of the Old Boys’ Club, represented Canterbury from 1923 to 1929, and toured Australia with the All lUacks in 1925. Mr H. E. Davis was appointed manager of the Canterbury team for borne matches during the season. There were present at the meeting:— Messrs A. E. M’Phail (president). E. V. Phillips, A. I- Cottrell, H. E. Davis, A. Duggan, W. A. Britten, W. Maxwell, D. I. Macdonald. J. T. Burrows, V. L. Jensen, J. K. Moloney, R. R. Masters, E. M. Todd and Dr W. S. Seed. Jt was decided that the Canterbury team play a match against the West Coast at Grey mouth on June 4. Accident Insurance Scheme. “I think it would be impossible for the union to handle sub-union players in its accident insurance scheme,” stated the president, when the Banks Peninsula Sub-Union asked wnether such a suggestion could be entertained. The union decided that it would be impossible to include sub-unions in the insurance scheme. Mr G. IT. Mason wrote agreeing to represent the union at the annual meeting of the Xe>v Zealand body. It was dec-shied that for purposes of club registration the preliminary round of matches count as competition games. This decision was made to prevent plavers changing from one club to another. The Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote thanking the union for the privilege given to .totally disabled soldiers by the issue of free passes to matches. Meetings of clubs interested in the school boy.s’ com pet it ion a.ml in the schools’ junior competition are to be called as soon as pssible to make arrangements for commencing the matches. The Canterbury Hockey Association was granted lise of the Lancaster Park U\al for a proposed match against an Australian team about the end of I August, and was granted the net gate with a maximum of fl-00. fo?' Gregory and Restman A match will be held to-morrow at Dili wood Park between Oausewnv and New Brighton, starting at 2.30 /p.m. A meeting will be held in the Mess Hall, behind the Civic Theatre, to-morrow at 7.30 p.m.
