CONTROL OF TAXIS.

By-law to Fix Fares, Hours and Wages. A by-law is being framed to give the Christchurch City Council power to take advantage of the amendment to the Municipal Corporations Act, which came into force on April 1. The Act allows municipalities to fix minimum and maximum fares for taxis, the num°f licenses for the various classes of vehicles, and the hours and wages for drivers. If the by-law is approved by the council, regulations will be made to cover those points.
