Gatherings Held in Town and Country. FOOTBALL CLUB S DANCE. The New Brighton Rugby Football Club held an enjoyable dance in the Pier Hall on Saturday evening, when there was a large attendance. The dance was organised by the committee of the club assisted by Mesdames W. A. East and R. Parker. The Ashburton Football Club were present as the guests of the Old Collegians’ team. Twenty-first Birthday Party. An evening was given by Mr and Mrs A. W. Laughlin at their home, Mandeville Street, Riccarton, for their son Pierre, in honour of his coming-of-age. Autumn shades and red dahlias comprised the decorations. The evening was spent in games, competitions and community singing. Gift Evening at Papanui. A delightful gift evening was held recently at the home of Mr and Mrs H. L. Kettle, Papanui Road, in honour of Miss Dorothy Dickenson. Dancing and games were enjoyed. A surprise party visited the residence of Mr and Mrs J. A. Jones, Clarendon Terrace, Opawa, recently, on the occasion of the ninety-first birthday of Mrs M. Smith and the first birthday of her great-grandchild Lorraine Jones. The evening was enjoyably spent in dancing and community singing. Musical items were given by Mrs J. Jones and Miss U. Jones. BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED. In honour of Miss Dorothy Bidwill. who is to be married shortly, a gift evening was given by Miss Freda Buchanan recently at the residence of Mrs F. J. T. Grigg, Rolleston Street. Interesting games and competitions helped to pass the evening pleasantly, and Mifs Doris Rabey sang two solos.
