MINISTERIAL. . Tbe Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) arrived in Christchurch on Saturdav night and travelled to his home in Cheviot yesterday, returning to the city late last evening. Several official matters engaged the attention of the Prime Minister to-day, but the business transacted was not of a public character. Mr Forbes will leave for Wellington by the inter-island steamer this evening. Mr B. M. Pitkethley (Wanganui) is a guest at Warner’s Hotel. Mr Fred Keeley, of Wellington, pub. licity manager for Universal Films, is visiting Christchurch. Mr J. Hutton, of Waianakarua, North Otago, has been appointed chairman of the newly-constituted New Zealand Poultry Board. Mr Arthur Rose left last night by the south express for Dunedin. He expects to be away for about three weeks. Mr M. H. Robinson, manager in Wellington for Reuters, with his son, Mr E. Robinson, is at present visiting Christchurch. Mr 11. H. Sterling, chairman of the Government Railways Board, will leave Wellington for Australia by the Mono, wai this week. Mr P. W. Maddock, of Wellington, general manager for Metro Goldwvn. Mayer Films in New Zealand, ia visiting Christchurch. Messrs H. C. Hitchcock and J. Morrison, of Christchurch, have been admitted to membership of the Institution of Electrical Engineers as students. Guests at the New City Hotel inelude Messrs P. Lawlor (Wellington), T. D. Reeves (Napier), L. Newton (Ashburton) and R. G. Hunter (Dunedin). Mr R. G Wilke, who has been connected with Messrs Booth, Macdonald and Company for the last eight years as tractor expert and grader demonstrator, has been appointed to the position of power grader operator for the Selwyn County Council. A prominent figure in the develop, ment of electrical communication work in New Zealand and abroad during the past twenty years. Mr G. Kofoed, plant engineer for Standard Telephones and Cables (Aasia), Ltd., has announced his retirement. Mr G. Naim, of the Nairn Transport Company, Damascus and Baghdad who has been a patient in St George's’ Hospitai, will leave Christchurch to-mor. row evening to connect with the Mono, wai for Sydney on April 20. From Svd. ney he will proceed to Port Said and thence to Baghdad His son will remam in Christchurch as a pupil at St Andrew's College. A presentation of a crystal bowl was made to Mr W M. Sexton by Messrs N. Dean and K. Hardv on behalf of the committee of the New Brighton Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday evening. Mr Sexton, who has been transferred to Timaru as manager for J. Ballantyne and Co., has always been an active playing member and has been a member of the committee for four years and club captain tor two years. Dr A. J. Harrop, representative in Great Britain of the New Zealand University and editor of the New Zealand News, London, arrived in Christchurch from the north yesterday and is staving with the rector of Canterbury Col. lege Dr J Right. He will stay here until Thursday, when he will leave for Oamaru to visit his old school. Waitaki Boys' High School. He will be in New Zealand for about seven months. Mr Ernest Davis, of Auckland, was appointed president of the New Zea. land Football Association at its annual meeting last week, in place of Sir t harles Statham. who had expressed a wish to be relieved of the position. Thanks are to be conveyed to Sir Charles for his interest in Association football and his s*ears of service as president of the New Zealand body, together with wishes for better health in the future.
