FORMER JUDGE DEAD.

Served as Magistrate in Christchurch. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 14. The death has occurred of Mr William Reeve Haselden, a retired district judge and stipendiary magistrate, at the age of 85 years. He was a son of the late Charles Haselden, Mr Haselden was born in London and came to New Zealand at the age of twelve. He took a keen interest in defence matters. He was a captain for many years, and obtained the Long Service Medal. He was the author of several books. Mr Haselden leaves a widow and two sons. Mr Haselden was born in London in 1849, and arrived in New Zealand in 1869, entering the civil service six years later. He was admitted as a barrister in 1872, and was later Crown Prosecutor at Westport. He practised in Wellington from 1889, and was appointed a stipendiary magistrate in 1897. He presided in both Wellington and Christchurch. He was made a district judge in 1905, and on the abolition of district courts was re-appointed a stipendiary magistrate, from which position he retired in 1918. He was a captain of the Naval Artillery.

The Rev Father La Croix. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, April 14. The death occurred to-day of the RevFather La Croix, at the age of 66 years. He was educated in France, England and Spain, and was ordained in 1894. He arrived in New Zealand in 1895, and for a long time was stationed at Taihape and Greymouth. He served as a chaplain to the New Zealand Forces during the Great War. He had been stationed at Wanganui since 1924
