OPPERMAN IN FRANCE.
The' Australian cyclist, Hubert Opjjerman, who left Melbourne in the Ormonde to tackle the Land’s End to John o’ Groats record, has disembarked at Toulon, and expects to compete in Continental events before crossing to England. . /Word was received in Melbourne last week that Opperman had arrived in perfect condition. He was on the heavy side when he left, but is now back to 1 his normal weight of 10.4. He had the attention of a Danish physical culture expert whom he was fortunate enough to meet on board the Ormonde. Within the next few days M. Gaston Degy, Bruce Small’s European representative, will submit a programme of minor Continental engagements to Opperman, and the cyclist will -probably enter for one as a lead up to the Tour of Italy, which is over eighteen stages and of approximately 3000 miles, and is to be held from May 17 to June 7. Mr Bruce Small will leave Melbourne on April 22, and he hppes to be with Opperman prior to the start of the Tour of Italy.
