BRIGHTON NOTES.
Meeting of Kindergarten Sub-branch. A meeting of parents and those interested in the New Brighton sub-branch of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association was held in the Pier Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs H. A. Bishop, convener of the sub-branch, was in the chair, and there were also present Mrs H. T. J. Thacker, president of the association, and Miss H. Hull, principal of kindergarten schools, as well as many mothers. The report stated that when the pre-, sent committee took office it was well aware that it had an arduous and uphill fight before it. and so it had proved. Things had been particularly hard at Brighton and money so scarce that functions organised had been useful socially but had realised little financially. The balance-sheet showed receipts £B7 2s sd, including £32 10s from the association and £l2 16s children’s subscriptions, and expenditure £BO 15s 9d, including £7O paid to the association. Mrs Thacker said she hoped they would be able to fix up their difficulties. They had done good work during the last year and it would be a pity if it were thrown away. The annual meeting of the association would be held in two weeks’ time, and if they had a good committee she would use her influence to have it carried on. Nominations were taken for the committee, which was elected as follows: General Committee, Mrs H. A. Bishop (convener), Mrs G. Bundy (secretary and treasurer), Mesdames C. M'Cree. F. Harper, A. F. Hadflcld and W. Cant: Mothers’ Committee, Mrs H. Barr (convener), Mesdames E. Ransley, M. Tennant, A. M’Keown, W. A. Hopkins, R. Toms, B. Henshaw, K. Lavender, G. C. Gillman and N. J. Dixon.
