POPPY DAY APPEAL.

The annual Poppy Day appeal was held on Thursday at Methven when a band of willing helpers canvassed the township. Being sale day there was a large number of country people in and as a result of the effort the sum of £lB 10s was collected by the sale of poppies. The appeal was in the charge of Mrs F. W. Ruddenklau and was assisted by Mesdames T. Ross, A. G. Foreman, Misses Alma Townsend, Marjory Ruddenklau, May and Ngaire Campbell, Marie Fleming, Mary Lochhead and Dorothy Harrison, With the foregoing amount the total now collected in the surrounding districts will bring in £25 with several amounts still to be handed : in. The proceeds are to be handed to the Ashburton Returned Soldiers’ Association.
