Mr Well- , sted joined the railway service in 1900 as a cadet in the traffic branch in Dunedin, and, like his predecessor, Mr Rodie, has had training in every phase of the working of that branch. Mr Wellsted was appointed to the position of business agent in the commercial branch in 1925, and occupied that position in the Auckland district until 1932, when he was appointed chief clerk to the commercial manager and transferred to Wellington.
