SAFE STOLEN.

Burglars Enter Brewery at Waltham. SUM OF £3O TAKEN. Hickmott's Bremedv, in Waltham Road, was broken into last night by thieves, who carried off a heavy safe containing £3O in notes and 25s worth of stamps. The safe was found this morning in the continuation of Hoon Hay Road, Cashmere, in a damaged condition. The door had been forced off. The removal of the safe was apparently the work of several thieves. They attempted to force the main door of the brewer)’, and then broke a side window into the manager’s office, reaching the main office, and opened the front door. Drawers and cupboards were ransacked, and the office was left littered with papers and books. Two empty beer bottles on the floor showed that some of the stoc.k had been consumed. The door of the safe was forced off with some heavy tool. Apparently the job had taken considerable time, but since the road is off the main road and not lighted, the thieves were not interrupted. Besides the notes and stamps, the hieves also took £6 in cheques, which were in the safe, but left the firm’s books untouched. This is the third time that the office of the brewery has been broken into, but on previous occasions the loss was small. There is no watchman at the brewery, but a workman was on duty till midnight, while others were on duty at six o’click this morning, when the discovery was made.
