HIS LAST CHANCE.
Young Man Admitted to
Probation
When Ernest Streetley was placed on probation for two years by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., this morning, he was told that it was the last chance that he would get. Streetley, a presser, twenty-two years of age, of Ruskin Street, appeared for sentence on charges of stealing three bicycles and a number of bicycle parts. He was convicted for the offences a week ago and remanded to allow the Probation Officer to report. He was represented by Mr Amodeo.
Counsel said Streetley was a great help to his crippled mother, and if he was not allowed his liberty it would be very hard for her.
“ I am very doubtful about this young man,” said the Magistrate. “ There are four thefts, and they were committed over a considerable period. The fact that he destroyed the bicvcles shows that he intended to do all he could to evade detection.” Streetley was ordered to make restitution of £9 at the rate of 5s a week.
