NEW GOLF RULES.
Professionalism Clearly Defined. STRICTER CONTROL. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, November 30. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club announces that the following definitions will become operative on January 1: A professional is any player who has played for a money prize or received payment for playing or teaching the game, either by personal demonstration. lecturing, or allowing himself to be filmed. * The following are ineligible to participate in any amateur competitions: Those who, for remuneration, allow their names or likenesses to be used for advertising purposes; permit their names to be published as the authors of golf books or articles of which they are not the authors; report golf matches in which they are participating if journalism is not their recognised vocation; accept presents or are given facilities to buy golf merchandise at prices below the usual charges for the purpose of advertisement: also employees of golfing firms who play in tournaments and competitions with the object of furthering their employers’ interests.
