Our Hills and Beaches.
Two great redeeming features of Christchurch, geographically speaking, are our hills and our beaches. These two gifts of nature also provide the means of health-giving recreation. On a hot day, playing on the beach or in the surf is the ideal pastime, but on any day throughout the year a walk on the hills works wonders, especially for those in sedentary occupations. Both our beaches and hills are j well served by trams. From thirty to forty minutes’ ride will land a passenger right at the beach, either at Sumner, New Brighton or North Beach. Our Summit Road, now famous throughout the Dominion, offers a variety of magnificent walks which can be tackled via Sumner, via St Martins, or via Cashmere Hills.
