Fruit Trees Damaged by Youths. One evening early this week a resident of Voelas Road, Lyttelton, found a number of youths whose ages ranged from sixteen to eighteen years inside a large frame which guarded two cherry trees. The cherries were green but that did not deter the youths from picking them and damaging the trees. A resident of Brittan Terrace had the same experience a few nights earlier, but in this case the intruders cut through the wire frames. A further case is reported of a strawberry patch being robbed while the owner was at church. St John Ambulance. A street collection was made yesterday in aid of the Lyttelton sub-centre of the St John Ambulance Association. The sum of £l9 was collected. Te Whaka Tennis Club. The Women’s doubles tournament for the Comer button will be held on the Te Whaka Tennis Club’s courts on Wednesday afternoon next. Personal. The Rev Herbert Leggate, a Toe H padre, who is visiting New Zealand, will arrive at Lyttelton this morning by the ferry steamer. lie will be met by members of the local branch of Toe H and about twenty members of the Christchurch centre. Mr Leggate will be entertained to an early morning tea at the local club rooms before proceeding to Christchurch. Captain and Mrs Hugh Monro will return to New Zealand by the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Remuera which leaves London on December 14. Captain Monro has spent v several months at Home, portion of the period being spent in making the necessary arrangements in connection with the construction of the new Diesel motor ship Breeze.
