BRITISH QUOTA POLICY ATTACKED. May Lead to Debt Default. CHEESE RESTRICTION MOVE CONDEMNED. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 2, 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, December 1. __ The “ Manchester Guardian,” dealing with Empire trade, says that the more recent cry, “Justice for the British farmer.” grows increasingly incompatible with Britain's pressure on New Zealand farmers to consent to a voluntary cheese quota. The Milk Marketing Board scheme may be endangered if a relatively high price for British cheese is not obtained, but colonial cheese is an important item of work-ing-class diet owing to its cheapness. The restriction of New Zealand imports therefore is undesirable. It would also so shake New Zealand’s economic life that it would mean the end of immigration and may lead to ultimate debt default.”
