“THE MESSIAH.”
The splendid work of the Harmonic Society this year will be concluded by the production on Wednesday and Thursday next, in conjunction with the Oxford Terrace Baptist choir and assisting members of other choirs, of Handel’s ever-popular Christmas oratorio, “ The Messiah.” In an attempt to forestall the usual Christmas rush, this year’s performances are being held somewhat earlier than usual, and to obtain the support of Mr W. Melville Lawry upon the organ, the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church has been selected as their location. An outstanding body of singers, approaching 200 in number, and well balanced in part, has been trained with his usual precision bv Mr Victor C. Peters, whose reputation as a student and conductor of “ The Messiah ” was earned many years ago and has been enhanced from year to year. A quartet of young but brilliant soloists has been chosen to handle the impressive solo parts, and in Misses Joyce Wilkinson and Alice Vinsen and Messrs T. E. West and J. L. Tennent the society has singers of ability and wide popularity. The opportunity to hear the great work at its best should not be missed. Tickets may be obtained at all music stores.
