AFTERNOON PARTY

Sumner Mothers’ Union Meeting. The Sumner branch of the Mothers’ Union held the final meeting in the Parish Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Among the visitors were representatives of the Sumner Presbyterian Missionary Union, the Sumner Methodist Ladies' Guild and the Redcliffs and Mount Pleasant Mothers’ Union. The guests were welcomed by the vicar, the Rev W. A. Orange, and the enrolling member, Mrs H. J. Marrlner. The room was specially decorated for the occasion with flowers. Mrs H. J. Marriner, who for over twenty years has been an officer of the Sumner branch of the Mothers’ Union, was presented by Mrs R. E. Whitfield with a bouquet of roses, and by Mrs W. A. Forrest with a bouquet of tritonias. The programme, arranged by Mesdames Hudson Brown and C. E. Claydon, consisted of the following items:—Piano solo, Mrs Henderson; songs, Mesdames Wesby Sheppard and Graham Jamieson and Master Claydon; recitations and monologues, Miss Joan Gracie; violin solo. Master Monte de Viliers; duet, Mesdames L. P. Longuet and Brooke; humorous recitation, Mrs Ellis. On the motion of the Mayoress of Sumner, Mrs W. H. Nicholson, a vote of thanks was accorded the performers and the organiser. Afternoon tea was served by the committee.
