On Saturday evening.r a surprise party, organised by Miss Louie Moody, Papanui, visited the home of Mr and Mrs Ken Smith, Woodend, on the occasion of the twentyfirst birthday ,of their eldest son, Stanley. To honour Miss Doris Cresswell. whose marriage will take place next week, a. gift evening was given recent—‘ly by Misses Molly Glackin and Bernice Grubb at Flockton Street, St Albans. The evening passed quickly with games, competitions and community singing. Miss’Cresswell was the recipi—ent of many useful gifts. An enjoyable gift evening was held. recently at the residence of Mr and Mrs C. Rainsford Rule, \Vestminster Street, St Albans, in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss May DaVidson. Music, dancing and competitions were enjoyed. Those present includedz—Mr and Mrs Rule, Mr and Mrs Hart. Mr and Mrs Timbrell, Mr and Mrs Mitchell, Mr and Mrs Gerard, Mr and Mrs Kirkpatrick. A pleasant afternoon was spent at the residence of Mrs S. C. Holmes, Mount Harding, Methven, on Tuesday. ‘when the friends of Mrs Ashley Dean ‘gathered to bid her farewell prior to .her departure to reside in England. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mes‘dames S. G. Holmes, J. W. M. Dart, R. A_. Grigg and H. T. Thompson. Competitions were won by Mesdames E. D. Thomas, H. T. Thomson, J. T. Stone and A. W. Norris. Afternoon tea was served and later Mrs Holmes, on behalf _ of‘those present presented Mrs .Dean With a travelling clock.
