NEW BRIGHTON AFFAIRS.
Site for Landing Ground Under Review. The New Brighton Borough Council met last evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr E. A. M. Leaver), Councillors W. E. Wilkins, J. Orsborn, J. S. Ainsworth, W. L. A. Taylor, J. K. Worrajl, T. E. Thomson, W. Hulme and R. E. Holloway. A letter was received from the Minister of Defence intimating that it was not considered necessary to provide an emergency landing ground for aeroplanes on the Naval Reserve at 'South Brighton. The council decided to give the matter further consideration. On the motion of Councillor Ainsworth the New Brighton Municipal Band is to be asked to supply the council with a copy of its proposed programme of municipal concerts for the ensuing season. The New Brighton Surf Bathing and Life Saving Club wrote requesting that a lease of the area occupied by the club be prepared to include the additional area now s.sed for sunbathing purposes. The matter was referred to the Mayor and Town Clerk with power to act. It was resolved that the South Brighton Progress League be asked to suggest the wording for a plate which it is proposed should be built into the band rotunda at Pleasant Point. The New Brighton sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote expressing appreciation of the assistance of tlie council’s staff to the Benevolent Committee in obtaining work on a subsidy basis for unemployed returned soldiers. The borough inspector in particular had given great assistance in obtaining employment in clearing sections in the borough.
