THE BULLER SEAT.

Voting in By-election To -morrow. PUBLIC INTEREST LACKING. The by-election for the Buller seat will be held to-morrow. Only two candidates, both of whom are opposed to the Coalition Government’s platform, are in the field, and the late Mr H. E. Holland’s successor in that electorate will in any case not be inclined to •vote with the present Government on many of the main political issues. Polling will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. The result of the election will be posted on the “ Christchurch Star ” display boards as soon as it is received to-morrow night. Public interest in the contest is not great, owing td the Coalition Government not presenting a candidate. The official Labour candidate is Mr P. C. Webb, who is opposed by Mr lan a Liberal-Labour candidate. Mr Webb is well known in the Buller electorate. He came to New Zealand from Victoria about twenty-six \>ears ago and took up mining at Denniston and then at Blackball. He was returned to Parliament at the Grev byelection in 1913, following Sir Arthur Guinness’s desfth. Of recent years he has been in business in Christchurch. Mr Simson made his first bid for Parliamentary honours in 1908, when he was defeated for the Hawke’s Bay seat b3 r Sir William Russell (Reform). Before settling in Hawke’s Bay, Mr Simson was in business as an auctioneer in Gore.
