Notes and Comments from Parliament. MARRIAGE BILL PASSED. (“Star” Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, October 25. In the committee stage on the Marriage Law Amendment Bill in the Legislative Council to-day, the Hon R. M'Callum called for a division on the clause empowering women to officiate as ministers at marriages, on the ground that many women would regard themselves as not being married if a woman officiated. The clause was upheld by 10 votes to On tile third reading, the Hon R. M'Callum said lie was opposed to the raising of the marriage age, as it would increase the number of illegitimates. The Bill passed unamended. Wellington Railway Station. The fact that the Railways Board has* recommended to Cabinet acceptance of a tender for the construction of the new Wellington railway station appears to be common property in political circles. An urgent question on the subject was raised in the House to-day by Mr Chapman (Wellington North). He asked whether the Minister of Railways would announce that a tender had been accepted, as there were many artisans and others who would be given immediate employment once the beginning of the work was authorised. Mr Forbes replied that the matter was still under consideration, and an announcement would be made as soon as tenders had been finally considered.
