CONFUSION IN FRANCE.

M. Herriot May Again be Premier. United Press Assn.—By Electiic Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, October 24. The President, M. Albert Lebrun, is busy seeking a new Government. The name of M. Edouard Herriot, leader of the Radical-Socialist Party, has been mentioned as a possibility’ for the Premiership. He has been ill recently. He has been Premier on three previous occasions, once for a day only'. Political confusion is complete, and the President’s task of forming a Ministry is unusually difficult because the existing majority, as well as the Government suffered a mortal blow. The Socialists’ wings are definitely divided, and the breach is apparently irreparable between the Radicals and the Orthodox Socialists. The left majority', which swayed Parliament, is irremediably broken. The urgency for a strong Government is recognised, but all the forecasts are at present guesswork. The crisis does not affect France’s disarmament position at Geneva. OFFERED PREMIERSHIP. (Received October 26, 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, October 25. M. Albert Sarraut has been offered the Premiership. lie was Minister of Marine in the last Government.
