REMARKS RESENTED.

Wool Industry Publicity in England. At a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Sheepowners’ Union yesterday letters were received from members drawing attention to the statements reported to have been made by Miss V. Howey, secretary of the Wool Publicity Committee. Christchurch, and protesting against the suggestion reported to have been made by her in Bradford to the effect that sheepfarmers in New Zealand had been losing heart about the wool side of their business and that they had been showing a tendency to allow their wool to deteriorate. Representations strongly resenting the implication contained in the remarks attributed to Miss Howey were dealt with. The history of the Wool Publicity Committee, which was originally styled the Wool Pageants and Carnival Committee, for the Winter Show at Christchurch about three years ago, was traversed by Mr 11. D. Acland, president of the Sheepfarmers’ Federation. Mr Acland disclaimed any responsibility for the policy being followed by the Wool » Publicity Committee, and the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Federation he said, was not connected in any way with its activities. He was surprised, continued Mr Acland, to find that the federation had been referred to as the body responsible for Miss Howey’s activities in England, and stated that the federation’s executive had no knowledge whatever of the policy which had been laid down as that to be followed by Miss Howey on her travels on behalf of her committee. The secretary was instructed to reply to the letters dealing with this subject along the. lines of Mr Acland’s statement. and to advise all branches of the federation of the position.

It has beetvdiscovered that almanacs date back to the year 100 A D.
