ADVENTUROUS TRIP.

Ketch from Suva Visits Northern Ports. (Special to the *' Star.’*) AUCKLAND, January 14. Five young men from Suva arrived at Mangonui on Thursday in a 34ft ketch called the Seafarer. Nine days were taken for the trip, the distance being approximately 1000 miles. The Seafarer left Suva on January 3, and experienced strong south-easterly •winds for the first two days. During the next five days fine weather prevailed and good progress was made. The daily average for three days was 140 miles. Two days off the New Zealand coast a heavy south-easterly wind was met and the ketch made particularly heavy weather of it. Thirty miles off land the Northern Company’s Waka hove in sight and took the ketch in tow. Crossing Doubtless Bay the tow-line parted. A new line was speedily attached and port made without trouble. The ketch is navigated by Mr G. Langdale, who is a junior officer on H.M.C.S. Pioneer, in the service of the Fiji Government. The other four members of the crew, all young residents of Suva, are: Messrs J. Steinbech, E. Lee, B. Lee and L. Lonnbern. The trip is being taken as a holiday venture. The Seafarer will rer at Mangonui for three days and v then visit Auckland, where three weeks will be spent. The vessel will then return direct to Suva.

Mr Langdale has come to New Zealand to sit for his second mate’s cerificate.
