VARIETY CONCERT.
In Aid of Beach Patrol Fund. „ Tf® .enterprise of the Canterbury Surf Life Saving Association in arranging a variety entertainment to raise funds for beach patrols this summer was well rewarded when a splendid house attended the Civic Theatre last evening. The association arranged a full programme which took the shape of a variety entertainment. There was certainly variety and certainly entertainment, both of a high order, and the repeated demands for encores from the audience testified to the judicious selection of artists made by the association. The programme opened with selections by the Returned Soldiers’ Association orchestra, music which was heartily appreciated. A timely dancing scena entitled “Surfing,” packed with pretty movement and humour, was performed by Miss Bessie Macdonald’s pupils, assisted by a chorus of genuine surf life-savers. The commercial travellers’ double quartet party sang several numbers, and members of the “Our Miss Gibbs” company headed by Miss K. Chapole and Mr D. M’Kivett gave selections from that opera. Other entertainers were Mrs Madge Brown, Messrs Clarrie Hall, Auton Low, Dej', Collins, Taylor and Patterson.
