ASHBURTON NEWS.

Trees on Reserve Damaged. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, November 1. Considerable damage is being done to the rows of oak trees which beautify the reserve in the main street and Baring Square by the disease known as golden scale. At to-night’s meeting of the Advance Ashburton Association, Mr W. F. Kerr suggested that something should be . done to combat the disease. Mr R. M. Dunlop said that the trouble, which was most noticeable during the months of January and February, was being experienced in all parts of the Dominion. The matter of spraying would be too costly, and in the absence of any special remedy, the only coures was to remove the trees when they died and replace them with another variety.
