BOARD ENTERTAINS.
Luncheon Tendered Naval
Officers.
Commodore F. Burges Watson, JU.b.U., Commanding the New Zealand Naval Station, and officers of his flags“ip, TI.M.S. Diomede, were entertained at luncheon to-day by the Lyttelton Harlxiur Board. The chairman of the board, Mr W. T. Lester, was in the chair. Commercial and civic representatives were present, in addition to members of local bodies. The chairman said that Canterbury people always had a warm welcome for the Navy. He extended a special welcome to Commodore Burges Watson on the occasion of his first visit. It was no small compliment to New Zealand, he said, that the Admiralty selected such men of outstanding records, personality and eminence for the New Zealand Division. He expressed the wish that Commodore Burges Watson and his officers would enjoy their stay in Christchurch and Canterbury. The Deputy-Mayor, the Rev J. K. Archer, on behalf of the city, also welcomed the commodore, and Mr C. Flavell spoke for the public bodies of Canterbury.
