PERSONAL.
Ministerial. The Hon C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by his private secretary, arrived from Wellington this morning on a visit to Timaru and Christchurch. This afternoon the Minister met wheatgrowers at Timaru. On Monday he -will attend a meeting summoned by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce leaving for Wellington the same night. The Hon Adam Hamilton, Post-master-general, passed through Christchurch this morning on his way to Invercargill. He will return to Wellington on Tuesday. The Hon J. A. Hanan has been elected Chairman of Committees and Deputy-Speaker of the Legislative Council Dr Aylmer Vivian returned yesterday from Dunedin. Mr F. S. Northcote (Highfield, Waiau) is staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mr F. L. Nicolson (Balclutha) is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs J. Bor ham and J. SeadGowing (Auckland) are staying at the United Service Hotel. The Hon G. J. Smith, M.L.C., and the Hon G. Witty, M.L.C., were arrivals from the north this morning. Messrs A. Andrews (Dunedin), R. J. Dowdell (Wellington) and E. L. Buchanan and L. R. Martin (Auckland) are staying at the New City Motel. Messrs Lindsay Russell, S. V. M’Ewen, W. R. King, H. S. E. Turner, O. Wilkinson, L. Whitcombe and A. Andrews were passengers from Wellington this morning. Mr R. M. Brasted, national secretary of the Y.M.C.A., arrived in Christchurch this morning, and will address the “ Father and Son ” gathering of the Christchurch Association this evening. Mr A. R. Jordan, District Public Trustee. Christchurch, will leave for Dunedin on Monday morning on departmental business. He expects to return on Wednesday afternoon. Mr W. B. Cunningham, manager at Greymouth for the Union Shipping Company, passed through Christchurch this morning on his way to Greymouth, after a trip to Sydney. The following members of Parliament were passengers by the ferry steamer this morning:—Messrs E. f. Howard, D. G. Sullivan, R. W. Hawke, C. Carr, H. T. Armstrong, T. D. Burnett, J. Connolly, D. M’Dougall, T. A. Macpherson, J. Bitchener, 11. S. S. Kyle, 11. E. Holland and F. Jones. M r J. H. Howell, first director of the Christchurch Technical College, has consented to sit for a portrait to be hung at the college. At the meeting of the Board of Governors last evening, the chairman, Mr M’Gregor Wright, expressed satisfaction with the arr’angeIt was reported at the meeting of the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College last night that the following chairmen of committees had been elected for the year: Agricultural, Mr B. Seth-Smith; appointments, Mr T. W. West; buildings, Mr J. J. Hurley; trades, Mr J. W. Roberts. Members of the Board of Governors of the Technical College took the opportunity last evening to congratulate their chairman, Mr M’Gregor Wright, on his election as president of the Technical Education Association, and Dr D. E. Ilanscn on his appointment as honorary treasurer and secretary of that organisation.
