Boys at Lyttelton are nothing if not venturesome, but even for them the water in the harbour is as yet rather cold. Hence the surprise of residents yesterday when a group of boys were seen not only having a “ dip,” but enjoying it, close by the slip. Then it was discovered that the boys had located the outlet from the new stand-by plant and were swimming in the comfort of tepid water. It was reported that the swimmer who first made the discovery found the change from almost icy water into a hot bath not altogether pleasant, but since then his followers have utilised the find to full advantage by swimming slightly away from the direct outlet where the heat of the water has been tempered down.
