Hollywood Voices Give London Toasts.
Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks—speaking from Hollywood—addressed a roomful of people dining at a West End hotel in London one night last month. The occasion was the announcement of a £6,000,000 plan for the distribution of certain Britishmade films in America, the Dominions, and other parts of the world. British and Dominions Films are the British company. United Artists’ Corporation are to do the distributing in America, which is the largest market. Several stars spoke to the toasts on the telephone from Hollywood. Tom Walls, the actor owner of the Derby winner, April the Fifth, answered the speakers, saying “ Have a little on April the Fifth for the St Leger.” Jack Buchanan, in London, spoke with Ronald Colman in Hollywood. . It cost £IOOO to bring American dinner speeches to London.
