“MENACE TO GIRLS.”

Basketball Players Complain. BEHAVIOUR OP LARRIKINS. As a result of the disgraceful conduct of a large number of larrikins who loiter in Hagley Park, the Canterbury Basketball Association has been forced to find a private ground, and has decided to remove the poles connected with the electrically-lighted courts in the park. The president of the association, Mrs A. Brown, wrote to the Christchurch Domains Board at its meeting yesterday, as follows:—“You will no doubt be sorry to hear that this action has become necessary owing to the disgraceful behaviour of a large number of larrikins who hang about our courts, and over whom we have no control. We feel that the good reputation of our teams may be impaired, and will spare no effort to protect our girls from this menace.” “ This is a matter of great regret,” said the chairman, Mr H. Kitson. The letter was received.
