FINE FINISHES.

Good Form Shown by Winners. IMPROMPTU’S LUCK. First Wrack was smartest out in the Valdhurst Handicap, followed by Todd f ingen and Edith Voyage. Modern Girl, after a strong start, broke on leaving the straight and was never prominent again. Edith Voyage was in front at the end of two furlongs, and with a round to go was just showing clear of Todd Bingen and Radley, with Great Amazon, First Wrack, Merce Bingen and Repute close up. Edith Voyage and Todd Bingen were showing the way to First Wrack and Radley three furlongs from home. First Wrack then moved up, and at the entrance to the straight was alongside Todd Bingen, the pair being just behind Edith Voyage. Then Edith Voyage dropped back, and an interesting struggle all the way up the straight saw First Wrack beat Todd Bingen by a head. Edith Voyage was three’ lengths away, a neck in front of Great Amazon. First Wrack was the favourite in a light betting race. Guy Denver failed to go off right in the Peninsula Handicap. Ilolly Bank led out from Donna Gulvallis and Manoeuvre, while at the end of half a mile Colorado and Wrecker were next, Aristotle being last. Starting on the last lap, Holly Bank was showing the way to Manoeuvre and Donna Gulvallis, with Colorado and Wrecker still at the head of the others, while Aristotle w’as moving up. There was no change to the home turn, where Colorado joined Manoeuvre in second place, two lengths behind Holly Bank, with Wrecker not far away and Kreisler improving his position. Holly Bank retired when the straight was reached. Colorado then took charge and stalled Wrecker oft" by a length. Kreisler was three lengths away, with Manoeuvre fourth. The Colorado—Tempo bracket carried a few tickets more than Aristotle, while Wrecker was the other one which was seriously backed. Colorado was a little lucky in getting off smartly after being troublesome at the start. A High-class Effort. Colonial Boy was smartest out in the Paparua Handicap, followed by Wrackeen, Nimble Direct and Wrackler. At the end of two furlongs Wrackeen had taken charge. There was no change at the end of half a mile, where Dillon Logan, Cranleigh and Delightful joined in the front division, with Red Shadow moving up fast from the back. Starting on the last lap, Colonial Boy was showing the way to Wrackeen -with Nimble Direct, Delightful, Wrackler, Warplane, Milo Minto and Pluto prominent with Red Shadow and Cranleigh next. Impromptu made a forward move along the back where Colonial Boy and Nimble Direct were showing the way. Three furlongs from home, Impromptu ran to the front with Nimble Direct next while a furlong

further on, Cranleigh ' was third. Impromptu led Cranleigh, Nimble Direct and Grand Canyon into the straight, Cranleigh going on to win decisively by two lengths from Impromptu, who beat Grand Canyon by a length. Nimble Direct was close up fourth, with Muriel de Oro next. Cranleigh and the Impromptu—Great Logan bracket disputed favouritism. The winner’s performance was a high class effort as he had to cover a lot of ground in order to get a good position. Impromptu put up a good performance, but at the present time he is running unluckily, this being the third successive occasion on which he has filled second place. A Good Trotter.

Wah led for half a furlong in the Aviation Handicap and then broke, Gay Paree going on from Todd Lonzia. These two were together passing the stand with All Peters, Ambition, Great Nelson and Biddy Parrish close up. There was no change at the start of the last lap, where the leaders were still together, just in front of Biddy Parrish, with Ambition at the head of the others. Great Way made a forward move in the back stretch, taking fourth place two furlongs from home. Gay Paree was beaten when the straight was reached, Todd Lonzia being left in front, but Biddy Parrish and Great Way ran past him, Biddy Parrish winning by half a length. Todd Lonzia was four lengths away, with St Petrox next. Todd Lonzia was favourite, with Biddy Parrish, Gay Paree and the Great Way—Ambition bracket also well backed, the others being neglected. Biddy Parrish repeated her success of the first day and left no doubt that she is a trotter of good class. Nimbus was a pronounced favourite for the Ellesmere Handicap, but lost his position soon after the start and never again became prominent. Guy Denver and Lifebuoy broke at the start. Tempo led out from War Paint and after half a mile had been covered, Gold Tinge, Gunfire and Rokena were in close attendance on the leaders. Gold Tinge went to the, front along the back, Gunfire taking second place. .A little further on, Mountain Ore also joined the leading division. Starting on the last lap, Gold Tinge and Gunfire were just clear of Mountain Ore and War Paint with Tempo and Aleron next. There was no change till three furlongs from home, where Travis also joined in. Gunfire and Mountain Ore led to the straight where Gunfire stopped. Colorado then put in an appearance and wore Mountain Ore down to win by a length. Travis was five lengths away with Tempo and Rokena next. This was Colorado’s second success of the day and on each occasion, he raced like a much improved horse.

Wrackeen failed to leave the mark in the Stewards’ Handicap. When the field had settled down, Editor and Somerby were in front with Sir Guy, Brentlight and Morrison next. The order was unchanged passing the stand where Mignonne and Great Parrish were at the head of the next bunch. The field raced in the same order to the home turn and Somerby led Editor to the straight with Brentlight next and then Sir Guy, while Lindbergh was moving up fast. Somerby retired when fairly in line for home and in an exciting finish, Sir Guy stalled off Lindbergh by a neck. Brentlight was a length away with Somerby and Great Parrish close up. The first and second placed horses hailed from C. S. Donald's stable which had not experienced any luck earlifer in the meeting. Sir Guy was always in the picture, but Lindbergh might have beaten his stable mate had he come home straight instead of boring in towards ‘the finish.

War Paint was smartest out in the Railway Handicap, but Country King soon joined him, while John Jinks took third place passing the stand, with Travis, Nona Bingen and Awa-iti next. Awa-iti ran to the front three furlongs from home, with Roddy, John Jinks, Country King and Travis in close attendance. Some Guy then moved up. He followed Awa-iti and Roddy to the straight, where Awa-iti and Roddy retired. Some Guy easily held his place and won by two lengths from Country King, who stalled off a late challenge from Princess Thea by a length. Nona Bingen was next, and after her came Our Bird and Travis. The favourite, Roddy, seemed to be going well for a time, but he was in hopeless trouble when the straight was reached. John Jinks failed badly at the business end of the journey. Some Guy was successful also on the first day, and looks like developing into a high-class horse. Somerby was smartest out in the Final Handicap, followed by Brentlight and Dusolina, but at the end of two furlongs Raydus took charge from Somerby, with Aleron, Brentlight, Dusolina and Arachne handy. Three furlongs from home Raydus was still showing the way to Brentlight, Somerby and Dusolina. Raydus retired when the straight was reached, leaving Somerby in front, but George Rey moved up fast on the outside and won by two lengths. Dusolina finished cn well and got up on the post to beat Somerby by a head. Sunchild was close up fourth, just in front of Arachne and Brentlight. The winner was not sighted until the straight -was reached, where he put in a brilliant finishing run.
