In the semi-final of the ladies’ matches Mme Mathieu defeated Miss Nuthall, 6-2, 6-4. It was a day of stark tragedy for English tennis. Menzel played a great game to defeat Perry, passing him on both sides with dazzling drives. " Cochet produced his old wizardry and made the American look almost ridiculous at some stages.
