English Players Beaten Badly. FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPS. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received June 4, 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, June 3. In the tennis championships quarterfinal Menzel (Czechoslovakia) defeated Perry (England), 2-6, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. De Stefani defeated Lee, 6-3, 9-7, 6-2. Cochet beat Mangin, 6-2, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. In the semi-final of the ladies’ matches Mme Mathieu defeated Miss Nuthall, 6-2, 6-4. It was a day of stark tragedy for English tennis. Menzel played a great game to defeat Perry, passing him on both sides with dazzling drives. " Cochet produced his old wizardry and made the American look almost ridiculous at some stages. Miss Nuthall was beaten by the Frenchwoman’s consistency and accuracy. It is revealed that Mile Suzanne Lenglen has been secretly coaching Mme Mathieu.
