CHARGE NOT PROVED.
Sequel to Tram Strike Heard To-day.
The charge against a youth of sixteen years of using an offensive term to a volunteer tramwayman during the tramway strike was dismissed in the Children’s Court this morning. The case had been adjourned from last week to enable the police and the accused to find a young- man whom the lad alleged had used the term. Two companions of the lad who was charged gave evidence this morning. One denied hearing the offensive term used, while the other said that it was used, but he could not say by whom. Mr H. A. Young, who, with Mrs T. Green, J.P., presided, said that the charge had not been proved. The boy must be taken in hand, however, for there was evidence that he had been smoking cigarettes and accosting strange girls. The youth’s companions were also addressed by Mr Young, who warned them that if their behaviour on the streets was persisted in, it would eventually land them in serious trouble.
