SCENE AT TROTS.
ifoung Man Tried to Break Into Bar. STRUCK AT DETECTIVE. A young man from the country, who made determined efforts to break into the bar, after the last race, caused a disturbance at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's meeting at Addington yesterday. To-day he appeared before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., on charges of drunkenness and mischief. His name was suppressed. Chief-Detective Carroll said that the accused could not force the door leadng to the bar, so he put his fist through i window. His hand was severely cut, and when Detective Halcrow came on the scene the young man made a swipe it him. The detective’s overcoat be:ame bespattered with blood. Before iny more damage could be done, the offender was taken in charge. Counsel said that the young man :ame in from the country and got ter--ibly drunk. During the day he had £23 stolen from his pocket. The accused was fined 20s and costs an the charge of mischief, and ordered to pay £1 to the Trotting Club for breaking the window, in default fortylight hours’ imprisonment. On the charge of drunkenness he was fined 10s, n default twenty-four hours’ imprisonnent.
