Women’s Sphere.
To the Editor. Dear Sir,—l see that droll Mr Dromgoole will have his little joke. I w*as hoping that “ E.A.” would, like the eternal feminine, have had the last word, but just when I thought she had, S. Dromgoole turns up trumps again. Now, according to him, his arguments are right, and, according to “ E.A.,” hers are right so we will have to split the difference. I should like to ask S.- Dromgoole (with his wonderful knowledge of women and their capabilities) how women who don’t get married and who are not blessed with much of this world’s goods can, with their limited brain power, earn enough to keep them respectably clothed, housed, fed and have some of the pleasures of life thrown in. He needn’t mention domestic service, for in lots of cases that is drudgery; the wages there have come down 75 per cent, and until a Domestic Service Union is established girls will be exploited in this part of women’s work. School teachers, nurses, shop assistants, dressmaking and millinery are all no use for women now as positions are already filled. Will S. Dromgoole tell the hundreds of single women how we can earn our independence in our struggle for existence?—l am, etc., PUZZLED.
