SPANISH MOTOR WAR
MADRID, May 29. Motor traffic is at a standstill because of the war between the Minister of Finance and the road transport companies over the new petrol taxes. The companies ordered all motor traffic to cease throughout Spain, and promised to pay full wages. Only bread, milk, mail and hospital services were allowed to run, and even private motorists were afraid to drive their cars. A warning has been issued by the Minister that the law for the defence of the Republic will be invoked, and that fines and imprisonment will be imposed if the stoppage continues.
