Grass Grubs.
A Garden Corner.
is doubtless a cure for every ailment under the sun, and the many enemies the gardener is afflicted with have also their antidote, but perseverance and care are required to bring adequate results. One of the most annoying pests we have is the grass grubs, larvas of the June bug or bronze beetle. These beetles are very active in December, flying about in the evenings before settling for their nightly feed. The eggs are laid in the ground and hatch out by February and pass the next nine months in the soil, feeding on grass and other plant roots. One means .of checking them is to spray their feeding places with arsenate of lead in December. If thoroughly done this would be very effective. A method which is strongly recommended at the present time is to water lawns ■yvith the special emulsion made up by Restar, Ltd. for the purpose. The grubs just now are starting their nefarious work, so it is well to act without delay. T. D. LENNIE.
