CATHOLIC BALL.
Gathering in Aid of Parish Funds. MANY VISITORS ATTEND. The pavilion at the Riccarton Racecourse was thronged with dancers last night when the Catholic parishioners of Riccarton held their annual ball in aid of parish funds. The pavilion itself had been lent and decorated by the Canterbury Jockey Club and the big square ball-room, with its pillars and raised dais made an excellent dancing floor. Hanging baskets of greenery and flowering shrubs formed the decorations. Bennetts’ Band supplied the music. During the evening an Irish jig was given by Miss Kearney, accompanied by Mr Kavanagh on the pipes. The Rev Fathers T. Hanrahan and P. A. Joyce, parish priests, were the guests of honour.
The members of the Supper Committee, were: Mesdames A. J. Burt, JLogan and W. Murphy. The Ball Committee comprised Messrs L. Crequer and W. Murphv, with A. E. Sheehv and M. O’Carroll (M.C.'s) and T. O’Brien (honorary secretary). Mrs Logan wore a smartly-cut frock of black taffetas and a black panne velvet coat with a white fur collar and waterfall sleeves lined with white satin; Mrs Murphy, frock of black and white floral brocaded silk under a bridge coat of black velvet caught with a brilliant buckle; Mrs Burt, handsome coatee of black faconne velvet over a frock of black satin.
