GRAND CHARITY BALL.
Such widespread interest has been aroused by announcements concerning the grand Charity Ball, to be held in the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s pavilion at Addington, on Wednesday, June 22, that it seems likely the ball will prove one of the outstanding social successes of the year. The executive has all the arrangements well in hand, and no effort is being spared that the night may prove thoroughly enjoyable for hundreds of guests. Tickets have been in steady demand at the Bristol, at seventeen and sixpence each, double. Committees are working in every Catholic parish, organising local dances, coin evenings and card parties, to help augment the main fund. From these contributions will be purchased the supper, which will be on a banquetlike scale. Since numerous donations have been made, the committee is hopeful that every penny received from the sale of tickets, plus substantial sums raised by the parishes, will be available for the Citizens’ Relief Association and the St Vincent de Paul Society, two organisations which give much-needed assistance to the poor.
