Andrews's try was a beauty. A high up-and-under kick saw Max in the vanguard, and four or five white jerseys, and as many blacks, strained after a bouncing, twisting ball, grabbed at and kicked at in a swift rush towards the line. It was over, but the first White missed it; then a Black made a grab as Manchester dived for it. Both missed it, and it carried on towards the dead ball line. And then a dirty white ragged figure threw himself after it, and touched down with only six feet to spare. As the referee gave him the accolade he collapsed. # « « It w*as a great spear-head thrust that carried Hart over. Taking the ball from Oliver, who had clapped on his little bit of reserve speed to shake loose from the tackle, he had a straight 35 yards. A black jersey footed it with him for ten of the last twenty. Speed won the day, but Hart was all out, and made no attempt to run round. » « Miss Williams, a one-armed girl plav« ing hockey for Methven in the Women’s Association six-a-side tournament at Hagley Park yesterday, attracted attention by her sparkling play on the right wing. She is one of a family of fifteen, and promises to develop into a brilliant hockey player.
