TROTTING NOTES.

TJAROLD LOGAN is engaged in the principal two mile event at Addington on New Year’s Day. LOOKS READY. Although she has not been noticed doing her usual brilliant work in Auckland, Mountain Dell bears a bright appearance, and it would only require her to register a satisfactory trial to bring her into the market for the Cup. C. G. Lee is driving the daughter of Blue Mountain King in her work, and he will hold the reins in the race on Monday week. Acceptances for the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting will close at five o’clock this evening. CUP FANCIES. There is not a great deal of anti-post betting done these days on the Auckland Trotting Cup, but channels are always open to those who like to indulge in a little “ flutter ” early. At present Royal Silk is in pride of place in the Cup market, and next to him are a bunch comprising Muriel de Oro, Meteor, Golden Pedro, Auto Machine and Neeoro. At a little better price is Pluto. 4c 4e 4c 4« Acceptances for the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting will close at five o’clock this evening. TARDY EXPLOSION. On the track at Alexandra Park, Explosion is trotting in fine style, but the big chestnut is still slow to gather up his speed at the trotting gait. He is to contest the slow class trotting events on the second and third days, and if he could be depended upon to begin as quickly as his opponents he would have no difficulty in winning. However, he is too uncertain at present to be regarded as a betting proposition. * * * * Great Author, who raced very unluckily at the Cup meeting, is keeping quite sound and doing his training work satisfactorily. 4c * 4c '4c Colonial Boy should pick up a sprint event very soon. At Forbury Park, he registered a second and a third. He is looking in great order. 4s 4c 4s 4c The pacer Meteor is doing plenty of solid useful work at Addington and looks in fine trim. The Southland-own-ed pacer should win a race at Christmas and New Year time. 4c 4c 4: 4: Going at the trotting gait in jogging fcasks at Addington is a well-grown two-year-old by Real Guy from Cora Dillon, dam of that good pacer Iloon Hay. 4c He 4c 4c J. Young is working a youngster by Peter Moko from Lady Jinks, the dam of Author Jinks, Lady Cello and John Jinks. She is the last of her dam’s progeny. 4c 4« * He The Christmas Handicap at Gore looks like being one of the easiest races to win, and if Erin’s Fair is reserved for it there is no doubt about what will be favourite. 4c 4c 4c 4c Salient has come along fast since last he was put into work. He is not at all an attractive pacer, but he has a good deal of speed and also possesses some stamina. He is consistent and does well on all kinds of tracks. 4c 4« 4< 4« A smart maiden engaged at Waikouaiti on New Year’s Day is Jacob, a five-year-old, by Nelson Bingen from Kelpie. He has had very little racing, but he has shown that he has a very useful turn of speed.

Coral Prince, by Rey de Oro from the dam of Bing Boy, is furnishing into a good looking pacer. He is well mannered and good gaited and is one of the most promising young pacers at work at Addington.

Willow Wave is a likely sort who should get among the winners on the southern circuit during the holidays. He is trained at Riversdale by E. Mitchell, who has Master Roy and Jolly Wave, and at the Winton Jockey Club’s meeting he won one race and finished second in another. 4« * 4: 4s If Holly Bank would only reproduce his track form in a race he would soon be successful. The imported pacer has a fine turn of speed, but in his races seems to break for no apparent reason. It is understood that he may be raced in saddle events. 4< 4c * * No horse who will do his holiday racing down south has better prospects of winning a stake or two than Master Roy. The Wavcrley gelding paced two fine races at the Forbury Park meeting, and will strip a very fit horse for his next engagement. TROTTING POLITICIAN. W. J. Tomkinson, J. J. Kennerley and other Canterbury trotting folk who have been in Melbourne will be interested in one of the election results in Australia on Saturday. This is Maribyrnong, in the Melbourne metropolitan area, usually a safe Labour seat. Mr W. J. Beckett, “ the father ” of trotting in Victoria, is fighting the Labour battle against Mr J. H. Fenton, who left the Scullin Government and the party, to follow Mr Lyons. Mr Beckett, who has held office in State Ministries, was chairman of the Victorian Trotting and Racing Clubs for years, and has been president of the Victorian Trotting Association for a long period. 4: 4: * 4: W. J. Tomkinson’s three trotters, Sir Voyage, Surprise Journey and Biddy Parrish, look in fine order. The last named showed much improvement when she won at New Brighton last week, as she went away faster than usual and after making a mistake, quickly got into her gait again. Surprise Journey went a capital race in the mile and a quarter event amongst the pacers. AN EARLY REMINDER.
