Early Results Give Conservatives Lead Over Other Parties.

Conditions in the northern half of England were ideal when voting commenced, the countryside being bathed in sunshine, but Londoners began polling in a dense fog. Shivering queues waited for the booths to open, the enthusiasm of early voters betokening a heavy poll. Motor-cars, of which 200.000 have been engaged throughout the country, crawled to the booths. Record polls are expected in many of the northern districts. An old lady aged 106 voted at Folkestone before 9 a.m. and another old lady of the same age at Croydon. A large National Government majority is expected. The present state of the parties, including those elected unopposed and the universities seats is as follows: Conservatives 49 National Liberals 8 Labour ~.*.1.;—.T . ~,6 Liberals 5 The parties will be classified thus in the election results: GOVERNMENT. OPPOSITION. Conservatives Labour National Liberals Liberals National Labour New Party National Independents Communists Independents Following are the detailed results of the polling in the various electorates.
